Freedom Store – A Metaphor

By Tonya S. Swindell

freedom

I’m sure our forefathers had questions as they approached Freedom Store,

And considered the fight for freedom our country would endure.

Undoubtedly, they counted the cost before making such a purchase,

Because they knew how it would impact men’s wallets and women’s purses.

They probably wondered if freedom’s cost would really be too steep,

And questioned if people’s loyalty really ran so deep.

They may have asked, “Should we purchase it? Should freedom be our next buy?

Or should we surrender our rights to Britain so men won’t have to die?

If we forfeit our fight for freedom and stay with the British clan,

Will we do it willingly knowing our civil liberties remain banned?

The British want it their way: taxation without representation.

But rights are very important to us because they were endowed at The Creation.

Let’s take a stand for freedom and see what the end will be.

By grace we’ll win the Revolutionary War so we can always be free!”

After the British totaled our purchase, writing a receipt at Freedom Store,

It was time to establish our nation so it could live long and endure.

The first step on the path was to form our government’s democracy.

We needed God’s help to make it strong so we wouldn’t make a mockery.

The U.S. Constitution was ordained to serve its patrons

By promoting unity, justice, and tranquility for our nation;

To provide for the common defense, general welfare and liberty

For us to enjoy in the “here and now” and pass on for posterity.

The United States Bill of Rights: First 10 Amendments to the Constitution

Established our blessed freedom to form a more perfect union.

Freedom to speak, inform, and worship, assemble peaceably and petition.

Freedom to bear arms as well as maintain our country’s great militia.

Freedom to protect from quartering of troops.

Freedom from unreasonable searches of our goods.

Freedom for due process and to receive double jeopardy,

Without being my own witness and surrendering my private property.

Freedom to stand trial with a judge and a jury.

Freedom to be tried in a court civilly.

Freedom from excessive bail and unusual punishment.

Freedom to protect my rights not covered by the government.

Freedom to live in a state representing my free will.

All of these freedoms are covered by the Bill.

We know God as Owner of the original Freedom Store,

And ever since we made our purchase we need Him so much more.

Freedom is good. Freedom is great,

About that I have absolutely no debate.

But we need the Lord, we still need Him

To help us in this season.

True freedom is not a slippery slope.

It leads us to God who is our only Hope.

The only way is for us to stay under His wings, shadowed by His grace.

We don’t know it all and we’re bound to fall,

But if we trust His Master Plan, we’ll see His Divine Hand.

From Freedom Store our costly purchase made life much more worth living.

It helped us remember life, liberty and pursuit of happiness we’ve been given.

God, alone, still proudly owns the original Freedom Store.

He welcomed us there, placed keys in our hands and opened wide its door.

He’s the Author and Great Finisher of our forefathers’ amazing faith.

So let’s hold our heads high as Freedom Flag flies o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
